In February 2021, while the COVID-19 pandemic raged on, I reached my 71st birthday.
In August last year, partly due to the impact of COVID-19, I decided to suspend the logistics consulting business that I had run for over 10 years, and began developing the Tera Calculation software. Simultaneously, I decided to build this website.
The motivation behind creating this software stems from being invited by Professor OO to participate in monthly study group sessions as a junior co-author of "Logistics OO" over a period of 4 to 5 years.
Looking back at those study group sessions, I was purely a listener for everything outside my assigned field. I resolved that I must thoroughly examine at least my designated topic to elevate it to a standard worthy of the book.
At that time, Professor OO encouraged me, saying: "The line count in a book is limited. Trim what you want to say down to its core essence, and write what remains unsaid on another occasion." Thanks to this encouragement, I managed to see it through to completion.
This book was published by OO Research Institute in April last year.
In that work, I wrote a section titled "Method for Estimating Distribution Center Scale from Shipping Data." However, there were points where my explanations were insufficient between the assigned lines, and I felt a strong desire to make up for those shortcomings.
I worked for 10 years at a logistics equipment manufacturer, then 10 years at a logistics operations company, and then returned to a logistics equipment manufacturer for another 10 years. After that, I ran an independent consulting firm for over a decade. Looking back, every single job was related to distribution centers.
During my time at the logistics operations company, I gained consulting experience under the late Mr. Mutsumi Nakanishi, and later learned the EIQ analysis methodology from the late Mr. Susumu Suzuki. Upon going independent, I took over Mr. Suzuki's consulting firm, the "Physical Distribution Technology Institute."
In June last year, Mr. Suzuki, who wished for the widespread adoption of EIQ analysis, passed away. As a relay runner passing on the baton, I felt a deep responsibility to write about EIQ analysis.
When starting the creation process, I agonized over how to explain the EIQ method. There were ideas and calculation methods that might not have aligned with Mr. Suzuki's original vision.
In conclusion, I decided to leave orthodox EIQ theory to others, and focus on compiling the practical calculation methods I have used in real-world operations.
Although parts incorporate the EIQ method, I compiled a self-developed program that includes conventional calculations without being strictly bound by EIQ theory alone. I decided to package this original calculation program as the "Tera Calculation" software. (Written in February 2021)
